Road, class 1 togher

What is recorded here

In a letter to the NMI, dated 1936, a Mr O'Halloran mentions what appears to be a road constructed of wood which was uncovered during turf-cutting operations (Topgr. Files NMI). The exact location is unknown and it is likely that it was destroyed. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
