Riverview Lodge

Terraced three-bay two-storey with dormer attic house, built c.1840, having recent dormer windows to front (east) and slate hanging to side (south) gable. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack and eaves course, having uPVC rainwater goods. Rendered walls with cast-iron vents to plinth level. Square-headed window openings with limestone sills and raised moulded render surrounds, having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor of front elevation, uPVC casement windows elsewhere. Elliptical-headed door opening within timber doorcase, comprising fluted reveals, engaged Doric columns on tooled limestone plinths, surmounted by moulded cornice. Timber panelled door with cast-iron door furniture surmounted by spoked fanlight. Rendered enclosing wall to side (south) having rendered copings, square-profile gate piers with rendered caps and double-leaf sheet metal gates.

Set on an elevated site overlooking the harbour, this terrace forms part of a group of handsome nineteenth century houses which were built outside the town centre for both temporary and permanent residents who were drawn by the sea bathing and healthy air to this fashionable area. These houses add much to the town's historic character and charm. The timber sliding sash windows, render detailing and round-headed doorcase are among the noteworthy features that enhance the terrace's traditional quality.
