Gateway, built 1887, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of bull nose-detailed rusticated granite ashlar piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornice capping on fluted friezes with bull nose-detailed rusticated granite ashlar outer piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornice capping on fluted friezes supporting lion mask-detailed cast-iron pedestrian gates. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Woodville House.

A gateway forming part of a neat self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 15702911) with the resulting ensemble not only making a pleasing visual statement in a suburban street scene at an entrance on to the grounds of the Woodville House estate, but also clearly illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in response to the cutting-through of the New Ross Branch of the Dublin Wicklow and Wexford Railway (DWWR) line (opened 1887) by the Dublin Wicklow and Wexford Railway (DWWR) Company.
