Ballyclohy Castle

Ballyclohy Castle is a circular 17th-century tower house in County Waterford, recorded as belonging to John Butler in 1640. Its thick stone walls form rectangular chambers inside a round exterior, while gun loops flank the east and west windows and a mural staircase climbs the eastern wall. The second floor keeps a southwest fireplace, suggesting it was the more comfortable living space. A shallow scarp and old fosse still mark a trapezoidal enclosure around the tower, hinting that the castle relied on both stone strength and earthwork defence.
