What is recorded here
On a rocky ridge in County Leitrim, a two-metre portal stone still leans above a buried chamber, marking the grave of giants in local memory. The chamber measures barely three metres across, small enough for one person to lie stretched out beneath stones lifted by many hands. That discrepancy between human size and giant name is the point: the grave belongs to someone large enough to break the world open, yet small enough to fit inside it.
On rock outcrop in an undulating landscape. A rectangular megalithic chamber (dims c. 2.95m E- W; 1m N-S) is within a low cairn (diam. c. 7m) with a surviving portal stone (H 2.1m) at the E end, S side. (Lockwood 1901, 84 7; de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1972, 44 5; Holly 1976, 132 3)
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Portal dolmen; Neolithic period. Its orientation and megalithic construction reflect early ritual practices associated with communal burial and landscape symbolism in Atlantic Europe.
