Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

On a slight NNE-facing slope of a low rise of ground in undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Another ringfort (TS043-010----) is located 290m to the N and visible from the ringfort interior. The interior of the ringfort slopes from SSW to NNE following the natural slope of the hillock on which it is located. This well-preserved ringfort consists of a circular area (diam. N-S 38m; E-W 29m) enclosed by an inner bank (top Wth 3m; base Wth 5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.5m-1m) reduced to a scarp in places, a fosse (base Wth 1.5m; top Wth 3m; ext. D 0.5m-1m) and a flat-topped outer bank (top Wth 1.5m-3m; base Wth 3.7m; ext. H 0.5m) which is intersected by a laneway at NW to N. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 3m) at the NE. The outer bank is heavily overgrown with thorn bushes and is intersected by a field boundary from NE to E and is much degraded as a result. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
