What is recorded here

Indicated was a circular fort on a low Mayo ridge, mapping its boundaries before human hands erased them. People lived there, died there and were buried beside it, but the sandpit removed the proof and the infill hid the holes. The fort still exists in the story told about it, even though the land no longer shows the shape.

In pasture, located on a low E–W ridge. A roughly circular, embanked enclosure (diam. 20-25m), possibly a rath, is shown on the1838 OS 6-inch map. There is no visible trace at ground level. According to local information, it was known as a ‘fort’, and consisted of a roughly circular, low platform without an enclosing wall or bank.
