Topsoil stripping for a gas pipeline in County Meath revealed a forgotten industrial complex at the south end of a low ridge. Two wooden buildings had burnt down, each linked westward to key-hole corn-drying kilns. One structure formed a penannular slot trench nearly seven metres across, its wide western opening partly filled by the first phase of a kiln. The fire that destroyed the buildings also fixed their shape in soil, preserving the ghost of a place where people dried corn and lived beside the heat.

Situated at the S end of a low NW-S ridge. Topsoil stripping (02E0194) in advance of a gas pipeline identified what appeared to be an industrial complex (1A/35/2) that was completely excavated (02E0857), apart from the S end of the burnt spreads. It consisted of isolated burnt material at S, and two wooden structures that burnt down. Each of these was connected with corn-drying kilns to the W. Both kilns were of the key-hole type and no artefacts were recovered. This Structure (A) was a penannular slot trench (int. diam. c. 7.2m) with a wide opening (Wth 5.1m) at W. The first phase of a kiln (ME042-030003-) partly filled the opening, while a second kiln (ME042-030003-) was just outside it to the SW.
