What is recorded here

This is one of two stones, bearing incised 'dot and circle' motifs, which were recorded by Wood-martin (1987-8, 282-3) as being incorporated into a drystone field wall adjacent to Tawntruffaun portal tomb (SL017-051----). The precise location of this flagstone is unknown (Wood-Martin 1987-8, 282-3; Kilgannon 1926, 299-300; Weir 1980, 210). The other stone (SL017-062----) is located 4.9m SE of the portal tomb. Probably dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age, the dot and circle motifs may be associated with ritual or symbolic practices linked to the nearby portal tomb. Such imagery is often interpreted as representing celestial bodies, fertility symbols, or territorial markers in prehistoric contexts.
