Structure

A substantially compact deposit (Wth 2m min.; D 0.44m) of mixed brushwood and occasional twigs in opposing drain faces. They are irregularly laid and up to four pieces deep. Woodworking with a metal tool is evidenced by one piece which is cut to a chisel point and has branch-trimming. The site is in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with occasional ericaceous wood fragments and fibrous roots. SMR OF010-249----, to the SW, is adjacent to this site and is similar in composition. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 2001. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
