What is recorded here

Bog water and darkness did not erase the shape; they waited for people to notice it. In Derryville bog, a short hazel rod lay across the black field like a forgotten measure, preserving the moment someone cut, carried and set it down. Bronze Age hands may have marked a boundary, built a scaffold or simply rested a tool. The bog kept that small decision alive until modern boots walked past it.
Discovered in Derryville bog in 2006 during a fieldwalking survey of the Bord na Móna industrial peatlands in the Littleton group of bogs (Licence nos. 06E0696-06E0706). A single roundwood (L 0.45m; diam. 0.08m), orientated E-W, located on the field surface. It was moderately preserved and was later identified as hazel. A date of 1310-910 BC was obtained.
