Stone head (present location) in Chambersland

Around 1980 a gateway on the W side of Barrack lane where this stone had been the centrepiece of the arch was taken down and the stone was moved to a house in Chambersland, off Wexford Street. When the road was being re-aligned c. 1995-2000 the opportunity was taken to secure the stone to a wall facing onto the road. The stone is a green stone in the shape of a corbel (dims 0.41m x 0.24m; T c. 0.1m) with a very rough finish, apart from what would have been the sloping underside of the corbel where a recessed panel has a head in relief. It is probably male with bulging eyes, a high forehead with long thick hair that curls over the ears. The stone is thought to have come from a church (OSFM) and it is certainly medieval.
