What is recorded here

Situated on flat bogland. Excavation revealed a wooden trackway (L 13m; Wth 1m-4m) which partially overlies a fulacht fia (TN036-050067). The trackway consisted of longitudinally laid brushwood which in places rested on a foundation of brushwoods and roundwoods. A date of 1547 BC +/- 9yrs was obtained from a collapsed oak lying directly on top of the trackway. (Ó Néill 1999, Killoran 241, 81-2) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
