Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathpatrick (galmoy By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and Foy's armies clashed near Rathpatrick, creating a bloody milestone on the Galmoy road. The land remains scarred by that sudden violence, preserving the shock of men broken by charge and cannon rather than quiet debate.
Situated just below a break in slope between a level plateau and lower valley area, in rolling grassland. A circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a fosse (Wth 3.5m; D c. 0.4-0.5m). When inspected in 1987 much of the interior of the monument had been quarried. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 27 September 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
