What is recorded here
Rahoonagh East once held a man-made underground passage inside a possible ringfort, but the hole has been filled and no surface trace remains. Local information recalls the opening, yet the earth has forgotten the shape of the entry. What is left is a flat field holding the ghost of a route that may have led people downward, around, or out of sight.
In possible ringfort (CO069-058----). According to local information, hole here formerly, which was filled in. Now no visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
