An Poll Talún, meaning hole in the ground, is a low limestone cave in County Limerick whose branches are only about 1.2 metres high. It gave its townland a name, yet no one has confirmed whether people ever lived, buried or ritualised inside it. The entrance is now blocked with rocks and earth, leaving the cave hidden in rocky pasture rather than on display. What remains interesting is the unanswered question: a named place with an unexplored interior, waiting beneath an ordinary field.
