Moatabower

Moatabower is a two-metre mound of earth and gravel in County Carlow, hiding a circular chamber built from stone and brick. It probably served as an eighteenth-century fishing house, suggesting people once sat inside that buried circle waiting for water life or watching the sky. The mound still stands because someone covered the chamber rather than breaking it open, preserving a small room where human patience may have waited for fish, weather or company.
