Three shallow pits sit empty in County Cork, dug by men with trowels rather than marked by ancient hands. A single broken pot fragment surfaced during topsoil removal, whispering of Neolithic life before fading back into soil. The bypass needed building, so the ground gave up its secrets and closed again. What those pits held has vanished, leaving only the shape of absence for anyone who pauses to imagine it.

Discovered in 2002 during archaeological testing in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Excavation in 2003 revealed three shallow pits none of which produced any finds.
