Burnt mound in Mitchellsfort

In low-lying marshy ground, adjacent to a stream. Discovered during archaeological monitoring in advance of the construction of the N8 Glanmire-Watergrasshill Bypass and excavated in 2001. Excavation revealed a spread (2.28m x 1.68m x 0.25m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil with no associated features though it was noted that substantial drainage works had been previously undertaken in the area.
