Hut site in Mangerton

In rough hill pasture, on a terrace, near the S bank of the Owbaun River, on the SW-facing slope of Mangerton Mountain. The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 2m) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.4m). The E portion of the interior is cut (D 0.6m) into the upslope to compensate for the hillslope. The inner face of the wall along the S arc is defined by upright stones, set on edge longitudinally. The wall is well preserved W-NW. A relict wall from a network of field boundaries (KE084-043004-) passes immediately N of this hut site. Another hut site (KE084-043002-) is 26m to the N. Two conjoined hut sites (KE084-043001-, KE084-043005-) are 43m to the N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
