Galway’s underground passage hid inside a rath, blocking and disappearing from human sight within decades. It resisted easy entry, perhaps preserving secrecy or simply refusing convenience. The soil and memory moved together, pulling the mouth from view while the chamber continued beneath the land.

Within the interior of a rath (GA104-152----). McCaffrey (1952, 223, no. 380) recorded that this Man-made underground passage was blocked up. On an inspection in March 1971 the mouth of it was visible in the N sector of the interior. It was partly blocked and was inaccessible (SMR file).
