Midden in Magherabeg

On the floor of a large valley amongst the sand-hills at the base of the Magharees Peninsula, Knowles (1901, 258) recorded a large number of shell middens composed of shells of cockles, periwinkles, oysters and limpets. Also noted were hammer stones, broken and split stones, a small boulder from which flakes had been removed to create a cutting edge, and bones and teeth of bear, red deer, horse and a cetaceous animal.
