Man-made underground passage in Lurga Lower

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

That is a man-made underground passage in Lurga Lower, hidden beneath a rath in County Mayo. Local tradition points to a shallow irregular hollow in the southern half of the rath interior as its entrance. The passage may have served people long before written records reached the place. It still belongs to the land, waiting beneath soil and memory.
