What is recorded here
Indicated was a substantial circular platform up to three metres high on its western edge, sitting on a Mayo rise with wide views across grassland and bog before land reclamation levelled it in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It may have had an entrance at the southeast, where the softened slope merged with a natural spine of raised ground, suggesting people once shaped the landscape rather than merely occupying it. What remains is a faint circular shadow in the pasture, large enough to have held lives, memories and perhaps stories now lost.
In improved pasture, located on a rise, overlooked to SW by rising ground, but with good views N–NE of undulating grassland intermixed with bog.
When inspected in 1984, this rath consisted of a substantial circular platform (21m E−W; 18m N−S) up to 3m high on the W side but with a lower slumped slope to E. It was incorporated into field fences at SW–NW and at N (as shown on the 1917 OS 6-inch map) (SMR file 1984). It was subsequently levelled during land reclamation in the late 1980's/early 1990's. A slightly raised circular area (19m NE–SW; 21.7m NW–SE) is still evident, defined by the broadly slumped slope (H 0.9-1.6; Wth slope 4-7m) of a levelled scarp, which merges seamlessly with the contours of the natural rise. The NW quadrant of the interior appears slightly higher, and there is a gentle slope from centre down to SE. The entrance may have been at SE where the levelled scarp merges externally with a natural spine of raised ground.
