Castle Troy

Castle Troy is a five-sided ruin on the Shannon, built with walls thick enough to stop a charge and shaped like a ship’s prow pointing into the water. The MacKeoughs held it until the mid-17th century, but even before their loss it was already breaking open, its rooms exposed to rain and memory. What remains is not a complete castle but a tilt of stone, an angle-loop, a missing corner and a river still moving past the place where people believed they could control what the water wanted.
