Lackendarragh held a twenty-eight metre ringfort where human hands shaped earth into a defensible circle before ploughs and stone banks erased the mark. The fort vanished into tillage and field clearance, yet an underground passage still cuts through the southeast quadrant, proving the site resisted complete forgetting.
In tillage, on W-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 28m) on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; circular area (c. 25m N-S) enclosed by low rise (int. H 0.05m; ext. H 0.9m) WNW->SSW; low rise disappears under bank of field clearance stones SSW->WNW. Immediately outside bank of stones is 1.2m drop down to floor of laneway which skirts site to W. Interior slopes down to W; Man-made underground passage (CO041-03602-) in SE quadrant. Circular enclosure visible as cropmark of bank in aerial photograph (GSIAP, W387). Probably levelled single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 29yd) recorded by Bowman (1934, 548) on Denis O'Connell's land. Location of standing stone (CO041-165---), recorded by Bowman (ibid., 549) as c. 220yd from this site, is not known.

A fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lackendarragh is a circular early-medieval defensive or agricultural enclosure, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. The site, now largely levelled, retains a low bank and is traditionally associated with local folklore surrounding fairy activity and otherworldly beings.
