Gallan stands in open Cork pasture, facing south and west as if still watching roads, weather and passing lives. A smaller prostrate stone lay nearby until road work lifted it in 1983, breaking the quiet company of the place. The main stone remains beside the lane, not hidden in museum glass but exposed to rain, grass and foottraffic. It is the kind of marker that invites more than measurement: a reminder that people once lived inside the view, not merely before it.
