Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yard is a graveyard in Kilmacumsy, County Roscommon, Ireland. It stands beside a ruined church and an old church well, with a possible underground passage nearby. The burial ground has grown larger than the small area drawn on the 1837 map. Its wall follows the line of an ancient enclosure, showing that the place belongs to a much older Christian landscape.
There is no evidence of the graveyard depicted on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a rectangular area (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 30m E-W) S of the church (RO016-097001-). The church well (RO016-096001-) and possible Man-made underground passage (RO016-096002-) are c. 120m and c. 70m to WNW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
