Grave Yd.

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yd. is a rectangular graveyard in County Longford, Ireland, holding memorials from the 18th to 20th centuries beside a 19th-century church. Rubble walls enclose the site, with gates on the west side for both the main yard and the adjoining RC graveyard. The church may occupy the footprint of an older medieval church, layering faith and death in one small stone box.
Possibly associated with a medieval church (LF009-026001-). This rectangular graveyard (40m N-S; 36m E-W) is defined by rubble-built stone walls and access is via a gate in the W wall. Centrally located is a 19th-century church (C of I) that may have been built on the site of the earlier medieval church (Devaney 1981, 6). Adjoining it to the N is a separate graveyard (RC), also accessed by a gate on its W side. Memorials in both graveyards date from the 18th to the 20th centuries. (Lennon 2005) Compiled by: Patrick F.
