What is recorded here

A dense deposit of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.055m) and twigs with a scatter of brushwood to the N (Wth 3.58m; D 0.52m). Most of the brushwood is parallel and the deposit slopes downward at an angle of 30-45°, with some elements set at right angles. A single peg lies in the densest part of the site. The wood is in good condition and metal-cut toolmarks are recorded. Wood species include hazel, willow, birch, alder, ash, Pomoideae and oak. The wood is set in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum and some ericaceous root. The site is one of a number of similar structures in a 24m length of this drain face, including SMR WM039-073---- and SMR WM039-071---- immediately adjacent to this site to the NE and SW respectively.
