What is recorded here
(l) Hut: A D-shaped hut foundation located at the S side of an oval enclosure measuring 11m x 6.7m. The wall of the latter survives for the most part only as a series of low orthostats and isolated boulders; there is a possible entrance gap at ENE. The hut measures 2.85m NE-SW x 2.4m SE-NW internally, and the entrance was probably located in the straight N wall. The remainder of the drystone-built wall stands to a maximum height of .5m and is c. 1m thick. The wall that extends ESE from near the hut terminates at a small hollow, 2m x 3m internally and apparently stone-lined, which may mark the site of another hut. The peat in the vicinity of these sites is only .1 to .2m deep, and it is not clear whether it was always this thin or whether it has been cut away.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 25. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
