What is recorded here
On poorly drained grassland on N-facing slope of rising ground in upland region. A house is indicated in this area on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map. It was speculated that this house might be 'Ballinunty House' as depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. However, only the wall-footings of Ballinunty House and partial remains of walled garden to S of house survive with no evidence for any house of 17th-century date. The house indicated on the Down Survey map is unlocated within Ballinunty townland.
