Located on an E-facing slope in the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains. The Cistercian monks of Duiske abbey at Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny had extensive lands in Co. Wexford as townlands around Rathnure with the element Grange in thier name testify (Colfer 2002, 191, Fig. 91). The location of their out-farm is not known, but the fishpond is probably part of their infrastructure. It is a rectangular area (dims 73m NNE-SSW; 29m WNW-ESE) of open water retained by an earthen bank (Wth 4m; ext. H 3m) on its E and S sides, with leats leading into the SW corner and out at the SE corner. It became incorporated into the designed landscape associated with Monksgrange House, a mid-18th century country house c. 180m to the SSE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 17 February, 2014
