Gallain

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Gallain is a standing stone on a NE-facing slope in County Cork, Ireland. Three stones appeared on the 1944 OS map, but a modern bungalow now occupies the site. Whatever life moved around those stones has vanished under concrete and garden walls.
On NE-facing slope. Modern bungalow built on site. Three stones shown on 3rd ed. OS 6-inch map (1944). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
