Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Yes. Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glantane and its linked places belong to the story above. The claims must stay tied to that story.
In tillage, on W-facing slope. Roughly circular area (38m N-S; 34m NE-SW) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 2.1m; ext. H 1.6m) except to NNW where scarp (H 1.9m) exists for c. 10m. Fosse survives as slight slope down to base of bank. Stone-faced field boundary (H 1.4m) skirts fosse N->NE. Gap in bank to NE leading into fosse; break (Wth 3m) to SSW. Interior cut into hillside on SE side and raised on NW side to compensate for hillslope. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
