Garranboy stands twenty-four centimetres above the living world, tapering to a point like a finger pressing through skin. It marks the highest place on its hillock and cuts a field boundary in two, neither wholly inside nor outside the farmed land. The stone does not ask permission to be seen. It waits for the person stupid enough to stop moving and notice the shape of the sky changing around its edge.

Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have marked a territorial boundary or served a ritual function. Its position on a prominent hillock suggests it could have had symbolic or ceremonial significance in the landscape.
