Ballybrit Castle

Ruins

What is recorded here

Ballybrit Castle stands on rolling Galway pastures, a compact four-storey tower that has watched the countryside since at least 1574. Its thick walls still hold a northeastern entrance, a broken eastern staircase and a second-floor fireplace, while poorer masonry on the southwestern side hints at an expansion never completed. The castle may have anchored a small nearby settlement, but time has taken its upper storey and left behind a defensive house that once tried to become a home.
Ballybrit Castle is recorded as a ruins in County Galway. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
