Excavations at Mellows Road and the Spanish Convent site uncovered ditch and fosse fragments that may have marked the medieval boundary around St. Canice's church in Finglas West. The earth itself is holding a ghost line, a quiet enclosure drawn not with rope but with patience, where ordinary soil remembers the shape of worship.

Excavations in 1994 at Mellows Road revealed a section of ditch (Wth 8m, D 2m) associated with a bank (Wth 7m, D 0.5m) which may be part of an ecclesiastical enclosure associated with St. Canice's (McConway 1997, 33-34). Further excavations in 1996 on the site of the Spanish Convent revealed a gully, pits and a section of fosse running east-west (Wth 2m, D 1.2m). This fosse may have been part of the medieval precinct boundary around St Canice's church (McConway 1997, 33-34). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 26 August 2011
