Ravenswood

Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c. 1900, having box-bay window to east gable, and several recent pitched-roof extensions to rear. Now in use as house. Pitched artificial slate roof with red brick chimneystack having rendered cap and detailing, terracotta ridge tiling, carved timber bargeboards to east gable, and timber bracket course to eaves of south elevation. Painted rendered walls with render plinth. Square-headed openings to south elevation, with painted stone sills having render brackets, and with double triangular-headed one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Box-bay window to east gable has lead tent canopy roof and square-headed leaded fixed timber window. Rendered boundary walls to east, and square-profile rendered piers with replacement steel gates, and rubble limestone boundary walls to north with square-profile rendered piers having decorative cast-iron double-leaf vehicular and single pedestrian gates.

The scale and size of this former gate lodge are typical of the gate lodge type. It employs elements, such as the oriel window, small openings and bipartite timber sash windows, which echo the style of the house to the south-west. It forms a pair with this house, with which it once shared a site. Its façade is afforded decorative emphasis by the use of varied materials such as red brick, timber and render and by elements such as the bargeboards and eaves course.
