Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathpatrick (galmoy By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible fort exists in Rathpatrick today. The land has taken back what people built there. A hundred metres of forgotten wall, two rings deep, once held a life whole. Now the pasture swallows the shape and memory follows it into soil.
In low-lying fairly wet rough pasture. Indistinct earthen features were visible on a high-altitude Geological Survey aerial photograph and the monument was listed in the RMP (1996) as ‘Earthworks’. It was not visible at ground level on inspection in 1987. Visible on Bing Maps (http://binged.it/13egFCB)(accessed: 4 September 2013) as a ploughed out bivallate ringfort (diam. c. 100m). Another bivallate ringfort (KK008-005----) of similar size lies c. 400 to the NE. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 4 September 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
