What is recorded here

Mám An Gharráin holds a broken earthen ring on a sunny slope beside a flowing stream. Its south half has vanished, leaving only a faint rise and a remaining bank one metre high. The missing half may have fed a field, a road or forgetting, but the surviving arc still marks a place where people drew a line around their own lives.

This univallate rath is situated on a SE facing slope, about 50m from a S flowing stream. The site was shown on the 1st edition of the OS map as a circular enclosure but its S half has been almost completely destroyed. The outline of this part of the enclosure is indicated only by a slight rise from the external ground level to the interior. The remaining bank is a maximum of 1.25m high externally and 1m high internally and is c. 2m wide. There is a 3.5m wide gap at NE. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
