What is recorded here

Under the broken ring of Baile Na Saor Íochtarach, a man-made passage still cuts through the earth. The fortress above has nearly vanished, but the hidden route remains, waiting for footsteps that know its shape. Perhaps it served the ringfort in seasons when storms closed the sky or danger crowded the land. In that case, the people did not leave a tower for others to admire. They built a way of moving through the world, then let the world forget the way.
Roughly circular ringfort KE044-105---- has been almost completely destroyed. Ashe (1954) noted a large Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 629. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
