Church in Farrannacarriga — Report the wrong picture

This field is known locally as 'Seana-Chill' and is traditionally regarded as the site of a church which was subsequently removed to Ballynacourty (KE044-063----) and finally to the village of Anascaul (local information). There is no visible trace of any structure here but a roadway, which skirts the E side of the field, is known as Bóthar an Aifrinn (Ashe 1954, 7) or Bóthar an tSáipéil (An Seabhac 1939, 181). The field abuts the boundary between the townlands of Farrannacarriga and Ballynacourty and An Seabhac places the site on the N side of the boundary in the latter townland. He recorded the name Cnocán an tSáipéil for the site and noted a burial ground nearby. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey.
