Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular-shaped earthwork. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a modified subcircular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1970 as a much disturbed roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 33m) enclosed by a bank and an outer fosse. The earthen bank is best preserved from S-SW and it is fragmentary and almost reduced to a scarp from SW-N-E-S. Portions of the scarp have been removed by quarrying from NNW-N-NE, at E, SSE and from WSW-W-WNW. A gap (Wth at top 5.4m; basal Wth 1.7m) at ENE appears to represent the entrance. There are the remains of a wide, shallow outer fosse. The interior has a gentle E-facing slope and traces of cultivation ridges running E-W. A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Loughagar More, likely dating to the early medieval period, is characterized by its circular earthwork and strategic elevated position. It appears on early Ordnance Survey maps and is associated with local folklore regarding fairy activity and ancient habitation.
