Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisduff (ardagh By., Longford Rural Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mud and memory collide where the water rises. The fort holds its shape because refusal is stronger than forgetting. Visibility is not the same as truth. What is hidden may still be alive.
In wet, low-lying pasture. A raised subcircular area (44.2m N-S; 41.8m E-W) enclosed by a substantial bank of earth and stone (Wth 6.3m; H 0.7-1.2m) and a wide, partially waterlogged, intervening fosse (Wth 7.6m; D 1.45m) with an outer bank (Wth 6.4m; H 1m) from NNW-N-SE. From SE-S-NNW the latter is no longer visible and the fosse has been largely infilled. A concrete water tank has been built into the inner bank at SW. A break (Wth 2.2m) in the bank at SSE with an accompanying causeway may mark the original entrance. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 16 January 2012
