Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knocknabooly East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knocknabooly East once held two earthen rings, but ploughs and boundary changes erased them from the pasture. The lost fort and its neighbour vanished beneath ordinary farm work, leaving no trace for later eyes. What remains is a clean field where circular walls stood, their shape preserved only in old survey lines and human memory.
In gently undulating pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Field boundaries in vicinity of site have been removed. Similar enclosure c. 80m to NW (LI018-030---) has also been levelled. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
