Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilcolman East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for the living. They belong to the fairies and to touch one is to invite misfortune. The ring in Kilcolman East has been levelled but the grass still grows dark along the buried ditch. What the fairies kept inside that circle remains unknown.
In pasture, on very gentle N-facing slope. Monument, depicted as circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. It is now evident as roughly circular area (29m N-S; 27m E-W) of differential grass growth. Darker band of grass (Wth 3m) W->E probably indicates arc of infilled fosse.
