What is recorded here

No visible rampart remains at Gortnaskea, only a shallow circular depression and scattered stones hidden beneath grass and heather. What is absent is the point: the field swallowed the fort instead of preserving it. The land has erased the boundary between human making and natural forgetting.

Internal diam. 30m. A partially destroyed subcircular area enclosed by an earthen bank surviving to a height of c. 1m. On the S side there is slight evidence for a fosse but the whole area has been considerably ploughed. The bank has been considerably interfered with and there are trees growing on it. A gap to the SW might indicate the original entrance. The interior is also tree-planted. It is situated in good flat land at the foot of Scalp mountain.
