Clearly Irish, human and old: a circular rath in Gortearagh, County Cork, with an earthen bank, a shallow outer ditch, and openings cut or worn through the rim. The fairy name may be local story rather than fact, but it fits the shape: a small made world set into a south-facing slope, where people lived, worked and were remembered long before the barn and kiln changed the site.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Circular area (40.5m E-W) enclosed by overgrown, earthen bank (int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1m), except to SE where scarp (H 1.4m) exists; external fosse survives to N as shallow depression. Break (Wth 3.4m) in bank to SW; modern gap (Wth 3.6m) to NNE. Remains of limekiln in bank to S. Hay barn in S half of interior; raised on SE side to compensate for hillslope. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
