What is recorded here
Five earthen rings dot Garraneduff, though only four remain visible. The lost fifth fort suggests human arrogance, since even forgotten stone resists erasure.
Broker (1937, 48) records five 'forts' in this townland; location of four known (8279; 8280; 8700; 9143); fifth remains unknown.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
